About the Book

Cold, dark, and grim, the second volume of Eisner Award–nominated ode to oblivion is preparing for the BIG CRUNCH that waits at the end of all things with a masterclass in scintillating science fiction told in the immortal EC Comics manner! At the apex of the gaping maw of the void that looms over our final issue (for now): Eisner Award–winning superstar Greg Smallwood (The Human Target, Moon Knight) writes and illustrates his first cataclysmic cosmic contribution to the CRUEL UNIVERSE canon! Then: Irradiated writers Melissa Flores (Power Rangers Prime) and Ann Nocenti (Daredevil) join atomically annihilated artists Daniel Gete (Skin Police) and Jordi Tarragona (Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps) to place their bets on heat death or big freeze as the galaxy prepares to collapse inward on itself. Here at EC Comics, we say . . . why not both?!

About the Authors

Greg Smallwood is a comic book artist who made his debut in 2013 with the award-winning series Dream Thief, a supernatural noir he co-created with Bram Stoker Award winner Jai Nitz. In 2014 he began a long run as the artist on Marvel’s Moon Knight, working with Eisner Award winners Brian Wood and Jeff Lemire. For his work on the series, Smallwood won the 2015 Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer. In 2018 he made his writing debut on the critically acclaimed Vampironica for Archie Comics, and his art on the series won the National Cartoonist Society Comic Books Award that same year. In addition to his interior art, he is also a prolific cover artist, known for his work on The Punisher, The Archies, and EC Comics.

Melissa Flores has written, developed, and produced diverse and inclusive entertainment in all genres, including television (Power Rangers, Glitter Force), feature films (Saban’s Power Rangers), narrative podcasts, digital films, publishing, live events, and gaming (The Unleashed, Power Rangers: Battle For the Grid). She’s developed upcoming projects for Stray Kite Studios, Dark Slope, MGA, and Picture Start, among others. A rising-star comic book writer, Flores has written for Marvel, Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, and Oni Press on such titles as her own creator-owned series The Dead Lucky, as well as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Radiant Pink, Spider-Gwen: Smash, Biker Mice from Mars, and more. Flores also voices the characters Kat Ranger and Gia Moran in Power Rangers: Battle For the Grid, and lives in Los Angeles with her girlfriend and a full house of two cats and two dogs.

Ann Nocenti is a journalist, writer, editor, and filmmaker. She wrote Ruby Falls (2020) with artist Flavia Biondi and The Seeds (2021) with artist David Aja, both graphic novels for Berger Books/Dark Horse. She also wrote Daredevil, edited X-Men, and created the characters Longshot, Typhoid, Spiral, Mojo, Blackheart, and many more. She was the script editor of The Fifth Night, a screenplay reading series, and the editor of Scenario, a screenwriting magazine. Her series about teaching in Haiti, Goudou Goudou, can be found at hilobrow.com. She continues to work on museums, most recently Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes, a traveling exhibition launched at MoPOP in Seattle.
