Sean Carwardine

Sean Carwardine joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1986 as an Airfield Defence Guard and retired in 2007. During his service he was posted to No. 2 Airfield Defence Squadron, No. 1 Combat Airfield Defence Squadron, RAAF Base Richmond, the Australian Defence Force Academy, RAAF Base Amberley, and Headquarters Airfield Defence Wing. He deployed on operations to Indonesia (1992), Timor (1999–2000), Afghanistan (2002), and Iraq (2003–2004).

Sean holds a Bachelor of Education (University of Southern Queensland), a Master of History (Airfield Defence), and a Doctorate examining the history and analysis of airfield defence policy in the RAAF (University of New England). He has published on RAAF airfield defence and RAF ground defence, and has delivered historical instruction across a range of Air Force training programs, including ADG initial employment training, SNCO courses, Junior Ground Defence Officer courses, SECFOR training, and SECFOR conferences. He is currently the Historian for the Airfield Defence Association of Australia.
