About The Author

Salma’s real name is Rajathi. She was born in 1968 in the village of Thuvarankurichi in Tamil Nadu, South India. She began as a poet and has written poignant poetry about the problems women face in their lives. Later, she wrote novels and short stories. Coming from a self-isolated Islamic community, she became known for writing about life in that society. The world of women in that community becomes the particular focus of her fiction. She has published two collections of poems, three novels, and a collection of short stories in Thamizh. Salma is now an MP in the Rajya Sabha.
