Gaston Leroux (1868–1927) was a prominent French journalist and author of detective fiction, best known for creating the Gothic novel The Phantom of the Opera. Blending journalistic experience with vivid imagination, he became a foundational figure in French mystery literature alongside Edgar Allan Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle.
