Barry Cooper lectured in music at the University of Aberdeen from 1974 to 1990, before moving to the University of Manchester, and is known mainly as a musicologist. He is general editor and co-author of The Beethoven Compendium (1991); his other books include Beethoven and the Creative Process and Beethoven’s Folksong Settings, as well as studies of English Baroque keyboard music and of music theory in Britain in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
