About The Author

Aliyah Baruchin is an award-winning health journalist, writer, and editor whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Scientific American, Neurology Today, and other national venues. Aliyah writes frequently about intersections of neurology, mental health, and public health, on topics as diverse as neural implants for epilepsy treatment, Mental Health First Aid training, and biases in dementia diagnosis and care. She also covers health and illness in cultural and political context, including racial and ethnic disparities in care and social determinants of health—how where we live, study, work, and play shapes our health throughout life. Starting work on The Daydream Trap was her introduction to maladaptive daydreaming. She is especially glad to be helping to tell both Jayne’s remarkable story and the parallel story of how health information has evolved over the last fifty years, empowering people with conditions like MD to find one another and seek answers together. Aliyah received her BA from Yale University and her MS from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
