Kaeru Utagawa is an emerging mangaka whose work blends Japanese folklore, historical imagination, and intimate character drama. Yashirojima: The Forest of Lost Dreams is their debut long-form manga, introducing readers to a haunting forest world shaped by reincarnation, wandering spirits, and echoes of Japan’s past. Utagawa’s delicate linework and evocative visual sense draw from classical myth and contemporary fantasy, building a narrative that feels both timeless and dreamlike. Yashirojima was first published in French by Vega-Dupuis and marks the beginning of Utagawa’s work in graphic storytelling. This English-language release represents Utagawa’s first publication outside Europe and Japan.
