About the Book

Draw appliqué motifs or print them on these handy sheets with an ink-jet printer, fuse the paper to your appliqué fabric, sew on the motif, then just wash away the paper after stitching. Appliqués are soft and flexible without the need to cut your quilt or remove freezer paper.
Wash out for a softer end result or simply leave it in...it will soften over time.

About the Author

Beth Ferrier's grandmother taught her to embroider when Beth was just four, setting her on a lifelong path of needlework. From then on, Beth's hands were always busy - knitting, sewing, weaving, making garments, first for her baby dolls and then for herself. She can’t remember a time when fiber hasn't been a central part of her life.

She describes her style as "rebellious traditional." A quilter since 1975, she is forever in search of easy and simply elegant solutions to quilting challenges. Everything she designs is geared toward teaching skill-expanding tips and techniques.

Beth lives in Saginaw, Michigan, with her husband, Kent, in a farmhouse built before 1860. They have four grown sons, two daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren. You've seen her on Simply Quilts, Kaye's Quilting Friends, and The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson. She's written several books.

Raves and Reviews

"The idea is you can run these sheets through your ink jet printer, or draw directly on it, iron the shiny side to the back of your fabric, cut leaving a 1/4" seam allowance and sew to the background, using the sheet as the edge to needle-turn against. Then, it washes away with warm water. And here is a neat feature! It's so soft that you can just LEAVE it in the quilt and it will soften in time! Now I like Steam A Seam; it's great for machine applique but it does leave a stiff layer in the quilt. It has it's place in sewing, to be sure. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "Well. Does it work?" YES! It washes right out in warm water! I let the block soak for less than a minute and could feel it disappear. !!!!!!!!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!! If you do use an ink jet printer to make your templates, any ink will transfer to the fabric in the water bath! This happened to me and I was able to wash THAT out with detergent. I would advise you to white out any labels, marks, unnecessary lines you have on pre-printed patterns prior to copying and printing them on that applique sheet. It will save you from a panic attack like I just had. You really don't want one of those!"

“Designed by talented Beth Ferrier, author, teacher, designer and American Quilt Retailer columnist, Wash-Away Appliqué Sheets by C&T Publishing are a brilliant solution for using foundations and stabilizers for hand and machine appliqué. Use these clever sheets as you work and then simply wash them away when you are done! Good job, Beth!”

"I LOVE THEM! I'll be using it in my classes this summer. For my samples I used it both for turned-edge applique and as a stabilizer, and it works well. It's a product I will use and be able to recommend."

– Sarah Smith

“This product has many uses! C&T's Wash-Away appliqué Sheets are printable, single-sided fusible and water-soluble for a crisp, clean edge to your next appliqué project - removal is unnecessary. Also useful for foundation piecing, English paper piecing, string piecing and more!”

– Quiltmaker

"There have been some exciting innovations in the materials available to quilters these days. Of interest to appliquérs comes “Wash-Away Appliqué Sheets” from C&T Publishing. These sheets are printable, watersoluble, single-sided fusible and eco-friendly. They are sized to 8 ?” x 11” and are sturdy enough to be run through your printer. Use these with your ink-jet printer for appliqué templates or foundation piecing. If you are hesitant to use these in your printer, they are also transparent enough that you could also hand trace your appliqué design to the sheet. When your project is finished you have the option of washing the sheet for a softer feeling piece or leaving it in and it will soften over time. Fans of paper piecing can fuse the first piece of fabric to the sheet thus avoiding ripping paper off and risking damaging your stitches. The end result is that you will find you have a crisp clean edge for your appliqué stitching plus save time in drawing multiple templates for certain block patterns."
