About the Book

From American Girl and New York Times bestselling author Fiona Davis comes the next chapter of Samantha Parkington's story--now an adult searching for justice after her legacy is stolen in New York City in 1920.

It’s 1920, and 25-year-old Samantha Parkington is working hard to educate women in New York about suffrage and encourage them to vote in their first presidential election that fall. But when Samantha’s large inheritance, including her childhood Mount Bedford home, is stolen in a shocking scheme, she goes from socialite to shop girl overnight and experiences a very different side of New York City living in a boarding house. Searching for clues regarding the theft of her inheritance, she infiltrates the business of a notorious criminal in New York City. Determined as ever, Samantha will do whatever it takes to find answers and save her family’s legacy.

Excerpt

"The right to vote in this state was not won easily,” Samantha continued... “You are not doing anything improper. You are doing your civic duty.”

What a joy it was to be back in Mount Bedford, the place where she had learned early that mistakes could be fixed and that some rules were worth breaking.

“Samantha was indeed dazzling,” said Cornelia. “You should be quite proud of your niece.” “I always am.” Gard’s grin eased into a quieter smile. “As Lydia would have been.”

Someone had chosen those letters on purpose. They’d either named a corporation after her grandmother or were pretending to be her.

Agatha was dancing along to the music in a cotton dressing gown. “Oh, Samantha, there you are! I thought you’d never get here. I’m trying to figure out what to wear tonight. You can borrow anything you like.”

She silently vowed to live a ferocious, beautiful, and courageous life... But this wasn't the end of the story; it was only the beginning.

Raves and Reviews

"Davis, known for her lush, historical New York City settings, creates a vivid world for Samantha. She brings back many of the characters from the original books and often refers to Samantha’s childhood adventures, but the story is less about cozy memories than Samantha’s work investigating a seedy crime operation. Samantha remains a plucky character who cares deeply about injustice, and it’s fun to see what her adult life might have been like. A nostalgic look back at a childhood favorite, with drama, intrigue, and a spirited woman at the center."
