The Protectorate of Mars Foreign Legion: A path to citizenship. A fresh start. Defending the Protectorate of Mars against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

HOPE

With itchy feet and a vagabond soul, all Blue ever wanted was to join the Survey Corps and explore the universe. But when she failed the entry exam, becoming a dropship pilot for the Legion was her last chance at achieving that dream. It was only supposed to be a stepping stone . . .

DUTY

All he ever wanted was a home. But when Tavi is driven from his world by murderous revolutionaries, he only has one chance to escape: the Legion. Searching for a new life, he soon discovers something even better—a family.

About the Authors

Jason Cordova is both a John W. Campbell Award and Dragon Award finalist. He edited his first anthology, Chicks in Tank Tops, coauthored Monster Hunter Memoirs: Fever with Larry Correia, and wrote Mountain of Fire in the Black Tide Rising universe, all with Baen Books. He has 28 novels currently in print and has been featured in numerous anthologies. A Navy veteran, he is also a former middle school teacher. Though Californian by birth, he has since relocated to the South, where he swears at the humidity on a thrice-daily basis. He can be found at www.jasoncordova.com.

Melissa Olthoff writes science fiction and fantasy adventure romance with plenty of banter and heart. She is a lifelong geek and a veteran of the United States Air Force, both of which are incredibly useful when writing. Her degrees in meteorology and accounting are slightly less applicable but absolutely useful when it comes to supporting her family.

Published by Baen Books and Chris Kennedy Publishing, she has written in both shared worlds and her own universes, and through the power of caffeine and friendship, manages to juggle chaos on and off the page. She is best known for her Griffin Corps series and Bronze Legion novels from Baen Books, and can be found somewhere in Tennessee with her exasperated husband, two chaotic kids, and one very energetic German shepherd. Raves and Reviews

Praise for To Tread Obsidian Shores:

“An unconventional work of military sci-fi set during peacetime . . . Cordova and Olthoff still delivers the fighting esprit de corps and noble sacrifice common to wartime stories. . . . The emotional sting of loss and comforts of companionship are fairly distributed, and a late surprise revelation sets things up nicely for book two. Military SF fans will find it hits the spot.” —Publishers Weekly

Praise for Jason Cordova:

“A great combination of story-telling skill and imagination that really hooks you.” —Larry Correia, New York Time best-selling author of Monster Hunters International

“Jason Cordova is the master of the blasters-and-spaceships style SF that I grew up on, a throwback to a classic era of space adventure . . . From kaiju to mecha, from bounty hunters to mercenaries, Cordova has done it all and done it well.” —Rick Partlow, best-selling author of the Drop Troopers series

Praise for Melissa Olthoff:

“. . . Olthoff creates not only a believable and immersive world, but populates it with people whom you can respect, understand, care for, and sometimes want to punch in the face . . .” —Jody Lynn Nye, New York Times best-selling author

“Olthoff’s veteran experience shines through in the authenticity of her character interactions and dynamics. She knows what it’s like to drive yourself to the breaking point in order to keep your brothers- and sisters-in-arms alive . . . and it shows.” —Kacey Ezell, USAF Retired, coauthor of The Romanov Reign series
