About the Book

When six teenagers uncover the origins of artificial intelligence beneath their elite boarding school, they discover that the world they are meant to inherit is unraveling and the secret buried beneath their feet may be their only chance to save it.

At Thornbridge Academy, the future is shaped by the privileged few. But something hidden beneath its campus could change the future for everyone.

Perched above the Rhode Island coast, Thornbridge is a world of its own: old money, fierce loyalties, closely guarded traditions, and family secrets that follow students through its gates.

Owen Brooks arrives carrying his grandfather’s ring and questions no one will answer. Elias Brooks was a Thornbridge legend. Then he vanished.

As Owen searches for answers, he and five fellow students uncover something beneath the school that reaches far beyond his family: the hidden origins of artificial intelligence.

Then the technology the world has come to depend on begins to go haywire.

Caught between the secrets of an older generation and the dangers facing their own, the six friends must decide whom to trust and what they’re willing to risk. But life at Thornbridge doesn’t stop for a discovery that could change everything. Friendships deepen. First love complicates loyalties. And the adults who should have answers have reasons to keep silent.

Their generation is inheriting a world it didn’t build. Now they may be the ones who have to protect it.

Thornbridge begins a trilogy of mystery, first love, and buried secrets inside an elite boarding school where the past holds the key to a dangerously uncertain future.

About the Author

Douglas Travaglione has been fascinated by the world of elite American boarding schools for as long as he can remember. Thornbridge, his debut novel, was shaped by that lifelong fascination and by his interest in how the next generation will navigate a world transformed by artificial intelligence—a question he believes every kid alive today is living with, whether they signed up for it or not. A lifelong New Yorker and graduate of Xavier High School, he works for Sotheby’s International Realty in Manhattan and lives in the city with his wife and their two children. Thornbridge is the first book in a planned trilogy.
