About the Book

A practical guide to understanding your inner conflicts and using them to grow into a more coherent, meaningful life.

The Two Sides of You: Embracing Your Inner Opposites to Live with Clarity and Confidence presents inner conflicts as a catalyst for transformation. Drawing on a lifetime of psychotherapeutic practice and a unique philosophical framework, author and retired psychotherapist Brian C. Knapp reveals how opposing thoughts, emotions, and desires are natural forces that drive psychological development.

Rather than demanding immediate answers, readers learn how patience, reflection, and self-awareness allow new insight and possibilities. Through relatable examples, reflective exercises, and an accessible model of how the mind works, readers will learn to identify their core oppositions, recognise the “inner logic” that shapes behavior, and approach difficult emotions with greater compassion.

Grounded in the philosophical system developed in Why Symbols Mean More Than We Think, this thoughtful and practical guide helps you navigate change while actively creating a more meaningful, authentic, and fulfilling life.

About the Author

Brian C. Knapp is a retired psychotherapist living on the Pacific Coast in Seaside, Oregon, with his wife. He studied at The New School for Social Research in New York City and spent decades working with individuals and families in Portland, Oregon. For over fifty years, he has studied the psychology of C. G. Jung, integrating Jungian insights into both his clinical practice and his ongoing philosophical work. In retirement, Knapp has turned to writing, developing a framework that bridges physics, philosophy, and psychology through the interplay of time, oppositional structures, and the evolution of consciousness.
