The second half of the career of this legendary soul group dissected

In 1980, The Temptations returned to Motown after a disappointing three-year stint at Atlantic Records. Reuniting with lead singer Dennis Edwards, the legendary vocal group attempted to revive their recording career in a changed musical landscape. For the next four decades, The Temptations continued to record and perform relentlessly, creating a catalogue of work that has been largely overshadowed by their earlier hits from the sixties and the early seventies. Yet these later recordings contain some of the finest moments of the group’s long career—from the acclaimed For Lovers Only and the Grammy Award-winning Ear-Resistable to Temptations 60, released in 2022. New members contributed to these recordings over the years, including Ali Woodson, Ron Tyson, Theo Peoples and Terry Weeks. At the helm throughout was Otis Williams, the last surviving original member, who has kept the group on the road and in the studio, despite personal loss and dwindling chart performances. Williams continues the group to this day, with a new line-up of singers keeping The Temptations' brand and legacy alive. This book explores this rarely covered part of The Temptations' story. It explores all their studio recordings from 1980 to 2022, and tracks the ever-changing line-up of one of Motown’s most enduring groups.
