About the Book

Artist: Carol Dyer "The Christmas Tree Ship" image captures an event of the early 1900s when the schooner Rouse Simmons brought Christmas trees to the City of Chicago. The ship arrived from Wisconsin and Michigan each December to sell its cargo of Christmas trees for the holidays. In honor of this great tradition, Mystic Seaport has published boxed Christmas cards with the image of the Rouse Simmons docked in the Port of Chicago. Today, the Chicago Marine Community and the United States Coast Guard have revived this "Christmas Tree Ship" tradition. The USCGC Mackinaw brings in Christmas trees on her decks to Chicago, where over 1000 trees are distributed to deserving, less fortunate families with children each year. Navy Pier and the area around the Coast Guard Cutter are filled with bands, carolers and chantey singers to commemorate this joyous holiday tradition, revisited. Imprinted : May this Holiday Season and the New Year bring you Peace and Happiness Box of 20 cards, 7" x 5"
