Three siblings must clear their parents’ names after they are accused of murder at the family’s hotel for magical creatures in this middle grade fantasy mystery that’s Once There Was meets The Swifts.

Hotel Marvelo has a sterling reputation as a refuge for magical beings. Whether in need of rest, relaxation, or recovery, the guests know they can rely on the Marvelo family to provide hospitality and a neutral, safe space—enforced by runes that block the use of magic in the building. That is, until a wizard is discovered dead in the spa…killed by magic.

The hotel owners know how to get around the wards in case of emergency, and though they swear they never have, the police still think Finnian Marvelo’s parents committed the murder. Finnian is determined to clear their names. Together with his sisters, impetuous Juniper and origami-loving little Teddy, Finnian hunts for clues to reveal the truth.

It goes against all his instincts as a Marvelo to invade guests’ privacy, but Finnian has no choice. From sneaking into rooms to eavesdropping from secret passageways, the kids use their knowledge of the hotel to get an edge in their investigation, but it soon becomes clear even they don’t know everything hidden within its walls. Can they find the answers they need in time to save their parents—and their home?
