About the Book

Buried alive in a tree—a new species comes to life.

Dr. Alexis Coronis, a molecular biologist, leads a simple life in Washington, DC, with her teenage daughter, Leah. While experimenting in their lab, Alexis and Charlie—her goofball lab assistant—perfect a formula for successfully blending human and tree DNA. To reproduce the results, Alexis must find a pure source of the original sample, which traces to Haida Gwaii—a remote archipelago off the coast of British Columbia.

Alexis and Ramsey—her investor and lover—travel to Haida Gwaii along with Leah, where they expose an ancient secret that has been carefully protected by a caretaker known as the Watchman. Alexis and her daughter find themselves in a life-and-death struggle against a hybrid monster species, catastrophic weather, and a betrayal that threatens all of humanity.

Mortuary Tree is a chilling page turner that builds suspense through a maze of bio-thriller twists and turns, culminating with a shocking end.

About the Authors

Novelist Chris Formant is an accomplished business executive, early-stage investor, and entrepreneur. He has served on numerous public and private company boards. Most notably, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Mortuary Tree is Formant’s third novel and his first foray into the horror genre.

His debut novel, Bright Midnight, received lavish praise and was dubbed the “Da Vinci Code for rock and roll fans.” In the thriller, Formant created a unique cold case murder mystery in which he reimagined the deaths of rock icons as a string of murders.

His second novel, Saving Washington, is the heroic story of the Maryland 400 and the Battle of Brooklyn. The Sons of the American Revolution called Saving Washington the “Killer Angels for the American Revolution.” Formant and the book were highlighted on America 250 on the Fox Network.

Chris divides his time between Baltimore, Maryland, and Sedona, Arizona.

Novelist, collaborator, screenwriter, literary agent, and book producer Gary M. Krebs is the founder of GMK Writing and Editing, Inc. He received his BFA from the Dramatic Writing Program, Tisch School of the Arts (NYU).

Prior to writing full-time and launching his own business, he was Associate Publisher at Brilliance Publishing (a division of Amazon Publishing); Vice President, Group Publisher at McGraw-Hill Professional; Group Publisher at Globe Pequot Press; Publisher at Adams Media (a division of F+W Publications); and Editorial Director at Rodale and Macmillan Publishing. He was also American Editor of The Guinness Book of Records at Facts On File.

Film rights to his award-winning debut novel, Little Miss of Darke County: The Origins of Annie Oakley, have been optioned to Bad Newman Productions, along with his screenplay adaptation.

Gary lives in Fairfield, Connecticut, with his wife, Liz. His website may be found here:
