About the Book

Few cars have achieved the lasting impact of the Jaguar E-Type, a machine that combined beauty, performance and innovation in a way that redefined the sports car.

From its sensational debut in 1961 to its enduring status as a motoring icon, the E-Type has captivated enthusiasts around the world. This book celebrates that legacy, offering a comprehensive exploration of the car, including:
  • A complete history of the Jaguar E-Type
  • In-depth technical information for all E-Type models
  • Over 300 photographs, including many rare historic images
  • Detailed profiles of the talented men behind the E-Type’s creation
  • A look at the E-Type’s enduring legacy today

The Jaguar E-Type is not only one of the most outstanding sports cars ever built, but also one of the most iconic, with a worldwide following. When it was introduced in 1961, it caused an immediate sensation, thanks to its beautiful, sleek design and advanced engineering, much of which was derived from the legendary Le Mans-winning D-Type of the mid-1950s. Whether drawn to the raw character of the 6-cylinder models or the effortless smoothness of the V12, there has always been an E-Type for everyone.

Jaguar E-Type – The Complete History explores the car’s history in detail, examining a wide range of aspects, including the remarkable team of world-class engineers and designers behind its creation: rarely in the highly competitive motor industry has such a dedicated and talented group come together to produce a true world-beater.

Whether the reader’s interest lies in the history of the E-Type, the people who created it, or its technical development – including detailed contemporary road tests – there is something for everyone. Illustrated with a wealth of historic photographs, some previously unpublished, and numerous colour images from the author’s own collection, this book also highlights the E-Type’s enduring appeal and the high regard in which it is held in today’s rapidly evolving automotive world.

About the Author

Mark Dollery was born and educated on the Isle of Wight – during his school years, his favourite subjects were English, Art and Drama. A lifelong car enthusiast, he has been continuously involved with the motor trade since the age of 13, when he began part-time work at his local garage, which specialised in buying, selling and repairing used Jaguars. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he worked as a trader, focusing on TVR sports cars alongside the well-known TVR guru David Foster.

In the late 1990s, he returned to his love of drama, studying the subject in detail and performing in several stage productions with a local drama group on the Island. In 2006, after owning most of the post-war Jaguar models and acquiring his first XJ40, he joined the Isle of Wight-based Jaguar Enthusiasts Club, writing several articles for them about the marque. Around the same time, he purchased his first E-Type, a V12 2-plus-2 model, which he considers to be the best-driving E-Type of all.

Having studied Jaguar models in depth since the mid-1970s, he decided to write a comprehensive book about his favourite and much-loved model – the E-Type. He still resides on the Isle of Wight with his wife and son, both of whom have given him their wholehearted support throughout the writing of this detailed work that reflects a lifelong passion for this exceptional car.
