About the Book

A darkly comic political satire about an idealistic schoolmaster thrust into cabinet office in a newly independent African state.

Chief the Honorable Minister follows an inexperienced schoolmaster thrust into cabinet government, where principle quickly collides with patronage, corruption, and the demands of party loyalty. First published in 1970, the novel remains a pointed satire of political idealism and public office.
