Stefania Macioce is Professor of History of Modern Art at Sapienza University of Rome, where she has taught since 1998. Her studies focus primarily on Caravaggio, on whom she has published several books and essays resulting from archival research concerning the painter’s Roman and Maltese periods, on rhetoric and engravings, and on musical iconography, with contributions to the catalogues of numerous exhibitions. Her seminal work, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Documents, Sources and Inventories 1513–1875, remains a fundamental reference for Caravaggio studies.

Michela Gianfranceschi lives and works in Rome. After graduating in Medieval and Modern Art History, she obtained a PhD in Modern Art History with research focused on Caravaggio’s cultural heritage. Specialized in Caravaggio and Caravaggism studies, she has collaborated with Sapienza University of Rome, the Vatican Museums and other major cultural institutions.
