Alia Volz is the author of the memoir Home Baked, winner of the Golden Poppy Award for Nonfiction from the California Independent Bookseller Alliance and finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography. Her work has been published in The Best American Essays, The New York Times, Bon Appétit, Salon, Tin House, and The Best Women’s Travel Writing. Her family story has been featured on Snap Judgement, Criminal, and NPR’s Fresh Air. Alia has received fellowships from MacDowell, the Ucross Foundation, Monson Arts, and Chateau La Napoule in France, and has twice been awarded the Oakley Hall Memorial Scholarship from the Community of Writers. A homegrown San Franciscan, she is a 2023 San Francisco Public Library Laureate.
