Recipes from MOON MAGIC MIXOLOGY

Due to its closeness to Samhain and its own intense energies, the fall Scorpio moon certainly inspires a psychic vibration. With the descent to winter and the visible changing of the seasons, this classic, green-hued, and herbaceous cocktail (crafted by the author Ernest Hemingway himself) is perfect for celebration and using the Scorpio moon for introspection, transformation, and reflections on death and change. 

 

Serves 1 

 

1 jigger (1 1/2 ounces) absinthe 

4 1/2 ounces sparkling white wine 

1 whole star anise, for garnish 

 

Pour absinthe into a coupe or martini glass and top with sparkling wine. Garnish with star anise.

Call down the moon and the stars for some Scorpio moon–inspired intimacy. Utilizing the peaceful and sensual energy of passion fruit, with bold spiced rum as the base and invigorating ginger, this variation of the classic Pornstar Martini will have you feeling sexy and confident. You can also top the drink with 1 1/2 ounces sparkling white wine and add some blackberry liqueur if desired. Enjoy with a partner, or anytime the moon is in Scorpio for extra sensuality. For a nonalcoholic version, omit the rum and substitute juice for the liqueur. 

 

Serves 1 

 

1 small slice peeled fresh ginger 

1/2 ounce simple syrup 

1⁄2 ounce passion fruit liqueur 

1⁄2 ounce pomegranate juice 

1⁄2 ounce lemon juice 

1 jigger (1 1/2 ounces) spiced rum 

2 slices candied ginger, for garnish 

 

Muddle ginger with simple syrup in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add passion fruit liqueur, pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and rum. Add ice to fill, shake, and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with candied ginger.
