Chris Evans is also the author of the Iron Elves saga: A Darkness Forged in Fire, The Light of Burning Shadows, and Ashes of a Black Frost, as well as Of Bond and Thunder, and the nonfiction book Bloody Jungle: The War in Vietnam. He is a military historian and former editor for Random House and Stackpole Books. Born in Canada, he lives in New York City.

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Persistence is the new black.

Q. What trait is most noticeable about you?

A. That I'm a nice Canadian boy which means I'm entirely sociable until you put me on a patch of ice.

Q. What’s your greatest flaw?

A. It's hard to place one above the perhaps equivocating?

Q. How would you describe perfect happiness?

A. Not having it. It might sound odd, but I am happiest when I am striving to achieve something. And I like leaving at least something to my imagination.

Q. With whom in history do you most identify?

A. A dash of Lawrence, a smidge of Kipling, and a lot with the unknown lads who served bravely and in anonymity.

Most days, I sit. A lot.  As an editor and a writer I sit at my desk, or I sit at the library, or I sit in the back of a cab and work.  I have tried reading and jotting notes while walking, but that resulted in painful discoveries, discoveries like lampposts are stubborn s.o.b.s that absolutely refuse to get out of the way even when they’re clearly in the wrong.  And so, I sit - or rather, I sat.
