Q. Is there a book you love to reread?

A. There are too many books I haven't read for me to often go back to old favorites, but I did pretty much wear out my copy of THE NEVERENDING STORY in my youth.

Q. Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

A. Everything takes twice as long as you expect, so do whatever you have to do to keep yourself happy and contented in the meantime.

Q. What comment do you hear most often from your readers?

A. That they're desperately attracted to one of my characters. I can't even explain how much I love that, especially since it's not always the same one.

Q. What were your previous occupations?

A. Receptionist, fry cook, topless dancer, mortgage application processor, vacuum cleaner salesman, headhunter, telemarketer, movie extra, and any number of other things, rarely longer than three months apiece. The longest job I ever held was as a bookseller at Borders (may it rest in peace), and I was there just over a year.
