Q. What do you regret most?

A. not hitchhiking around the world before I lost UNFAILING faith in human nature

Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?

A. I would be on Shackleford Banks, an uninhabited island off the coast of North Carolina., listening to the waves, revelling in the fact that I was surrounded by wild things.

Q. What is your biggest pet peeve?

A. I want to shake people who have no empathy ; it's not that difficult to imagine yourself in another creature's -- human or animal-- skin (or exoskeleton) and imagine he/she has not had your advantages. Piece of cake, really!

Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?

A. Depends on what you mean by "occupation." Teaching high school English was my favorite job, but my favorite hobbies are riding mountain bikes, riding horses and reading, reading, reading. Oh, I enjoy cooking, too.
