Q. What is your motto or maxim?
A. You create your own happy.
Q. With whom in history do you most identify?
A. I don't know about identifying, but my heroes are those who fought for civil rights when I was growing up, whether over race, gender, or other forms of discrimination. Martin Luther King Jr. fills a big place in my soul.
Q. What’s your fantasy profession?
A. I'd love to have a preschool. Or a breakfast/lunch restaurant. Or a bed and breakfast in a tropical location. Or . . .
Q. Which living person do you most admire?
A. My sisters, who've all come through the same difficult childhood and went on to raise their own families.
Q. What do you regret most?
A. I ended a junior high romance really awkwardly. Nuff said.
October 18, 2013Writers are a bit like gardeners. We plant seeds, lots of seeds, and hope they'll sprout and take hold in the muck that fertilizes such things and helps them grow. Like gardeners, we don’t always succeed. But when we do, and the result of our meticulous tending blooms, it feel miraculous. Especially when we get to watch it flower twice.
