Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. "Why am I so tired?"

Q. Which living person do you most admire?

A. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to say my mother, and while that is true, I also think Michelle Obama seems extremely rad.

Q. What are your 5 favorite songs?

A. "I Only Have Eyes for You" -The Flamingos; "California"-Joni Mitchell; "Only a Fool Breaks His Own Heart"-Norman Bergen; "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"-Neutral Milk Hotel; "Tonight You Belong to Me"-which I know from the Steve Martin movie The Jerk, I'm not kidding.

Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?

A. Teaching writing. Although I admit I have an ill-advised running-a-bookstore fantasy.

Q. What is your biggest pet peeve?

A. When people fast-walk right behind you. Pass! Just pass!
