A. "Why am I so tired?"

A. "I Only Have Eyes for You" -The Flamingos; "California"-Joni Mitchell; "Only a Fool Breaks His Own Heart"-Norman Bergen; "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"-Neutral Milk Hotel; "Tonight You Belong to Me"-which I know from the Steve Martin movie The Jerk, I'm not kidding.

Q. What is your biggest pet peeve?

A. When people fast-walk right behind you. Pass! Just pass!

Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A. I would love to be invited to a party at Bloomsbury, discuss writing and art with Virginia Woolf, and then have her lean over and whisper "YOU REALLY GET IT." And then we'd all have tea.

Q. If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

A. An athletic ability. I'd take any of them.
