I am super stoked to be part of the #PenguinHotline this year where we will bring you the best book recs! – 🐧 I haven't opened that super cute wrapped book yet but I'm about to! Dark Matter has been highly recommended to me by several people and I'm sooooo looking forward to reading it! The peeps at Penguin asked me to recommend 3 books I read this year that I think everyone should read and these were my recs, these are either stand alones or first in series: ….. drum rolllllllll …… 1. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff 2. All the Rage by Courtney Summers 3. Kids of Appetite by David Arnold If you were to only read 3 books in the year and only 3 these would be my recommendation to you. – 🐧 What are 3 books you have read this year you think everyone should read? – 🐧 Check out the link on my bio to learn more about Penguin Hotline
You’re in a small log cabin in the middle of the woods. It’s snowing outside but you’re warm and toasty; after all, you’ve got tons of soft flannel blankets, a warm cup of cocoa, and a crackling fire. You have nothing to do except wait out the storm with a good book and the people you love around you. Kind of like waking up inside of this Tumblr.
That feeling your feeling? We don’t really have a word for it —”cozy” sort of does the trick, but the Danes have a special word for that warm, intimate, safe feeling: hygge. (Pronounced hue-gah or hoogah, depending on who you ask, but I watched this entire video and I’m still not sure.)
According to VisitDenmark,
“In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. There’s nothing more hygge than sitting round a table, discussing the big and small things in life.”
Now, armed with all of this newfound information… doesn’t it remind you a little of something?
BOOKSTAGRAM IS HYGGE AF! Which makes sense, because all bookish people want to do is make tea, get cozy, and read books all day, preferably when it’s drab outside so we don’t have to feel guilty about it. In the spirit of hygge and the holidays swiftly approaching (they really do go hand in hand), I’ve rounded up the best Instagram accounts to inspire your reading list AND put you in a cuddly mood.
Ursula is the queen of holiday-spiced bookish goodness, and she has great taste in fantasy/YA lit to boot.
You get two posts from me today ha! I don't think I can keep up with two posts a day but I saw @penguinukbooks photo challenge this morning and I kinda love their prompts! – 🐧 Day 1: Favourite First Line – and the prize goes to @misterkristoff for the first line in #Nevernight "People often shit themselves when they die" 💩 I challenge you to show me a better first line than that one! 😂 Also I'd like to add that this was my favourite book this year (some days GEMINA fights it for the spot but it seems NN always wins lol) if you haven't read this book you are majorly missing out! – 🐧 What is your favourite first line in a book? 📚 – #AllIWantForChristmasIsBooks #Nevernight #stabstabstab
Cate is a master of capturing hygge all year round, but lately it’s been infused with a special Christmas feeling and I am HERE FOR IT.
Day 4: 🎶 "…tales of the glories of Christmases long long ago." (Festive #shortstorysunday) 🎶 • Today, I finished putting up the Christmas decorations – it's decidedly festive in my little apartment. With the smell of fir trees, cinnamon and apples in the air, and the first Harry Potter movie playing in the background. I trimmed the tree, hung the wreath and afterwards made a cup of hot chocolate. I'm now settled in for the evening, with snow on the forecast, twinkling lights in the background and this short story collection I'll be reading this month. • #JingleBookRock –> Short Story Sunday #LILBookishDecember –> Deck the Halls #AllIWantForChristmasIsBooks –> Last read #TolkienYule –> Dinners, Duvets and Decorations
Proving that you don’t need a million props to create a mood – sometimes all you need is a comfy scarf and some old books.
It's already a week into December and I am still trying to decide on my whole tbr for the month, but these are the three I'm most excited about! Re-reading Little Women for #alittlewomenholiday, and buddy-reading The Name of the Wind with some great ladies! And The Screwtape Letters has been on my list for oh so long. What book are you most excited about picking up this month? . . . #book #books #read #reading #fiction #vintagebook #literature #words #library #bibliophile #goodreads #bookworm #bookstagram #booklover #bookchallenge #bookish #igreads #bookstagramer #bookstagramfeature #bookstagramersunite #bookphotography #vscocam #booksofinstagram #thescrewtapeletters #cslewis #thenameofthewind #patrickrothfuss #littlewomen #louisamayalcott
Cozy knits, check. twinkle lights, check. Marie captures the quiet pleasure of reading (and provides crafting inspiration!).
This is Kinfolk X Bookstagram and yeah… I love it. Micah, teach me your woodland fairy reader ways.
“Patience child, patience. Remember life is a journey. If you got everything you wanted all at once there'd be no point to living. Enjoy the ride, and in the end you'll see the ‘setbacks’ as giant leaps forward, only you couldn't see the bigger picture in the moment. Remain calm, all is within reach; all you have to do is show up everyday, stay true to your path and you will surely find the treasure you seek.” -Jackson Kiddard
