Contrary to the way events were portrayed in the movie “Selma,” Lyndon Johnson and Martin Luther King, Jr. were close partners in getting the Voting Rights Act of 1965 passed – a law that changed America forever. According to Joseph A. Califano, Jr., Johnson’s top aide for domestic affairs, the events that led to the passage of that landmark legislation haven’t been fully explored, until now.
