FAQ

I've been a member of Pulse It — do I need to sign up again?

Yes, this is a new and improved Pulse It program. Please click here to sign up even if you have signed up previously.

Who can join?

The Pulse It program is available to legal residents of one (1) of the fifty (50) United States or D.C. and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are between the ages of 14 and 18.

I'm a teacher. Can I join?

Our program is only for teens age 14 to 18, so you cannot become a member yourself but can encourage your students to join. Also, visit TEACH.SimonandSchuster.net for extra resources.

Can siblings join?

Yes, provided that all siblings meet the eligibility requirements for Pulse It program members, and register separately and maintain separate accounts.

How do I sign up?

Click the sign up link at the top of the page.

Is Pulse It free?

Yes. There is no submission fee, no late fee, no book fee. What we ask in exchange for access to reading books for free online is for members to participate in the Pulse It web site community, such as by completing a review or participating in book discussions.

Do I need special software or computer equipment to read the book online?

No, all you need is a computer that allows you to access the Internet. You won't need to download any software to read the books online (other than a standard web browser).

How long does it take to get access to start reading your first book?

You can choose your first book and start reading online, right after you sign up! As noted below, the book is available for reading for 60 days from the date it becomes available on the Pulse It website. However, please note that after the 60 days are up, you will no longer have access to the book so make sure you finish it before the deadline expires.

Is there a way for me to bookmark the page in the book where I stop reading?

Yes, we'll save the last page you read so that the next time you log in, you'll be on that page.

What kinds of books will I be able to read?

Some of the books featured in the prior Teen Pulse program included: Outside Beauty, 100 Girls, Model, Hard Love, Read My Lips, Perfect You, Chill, Wake, Secrets of My Suburban Life, Uglies, and Private. We will not be offering these books again, but we hope this gives you a good idea of what kind of books will be in the program.

Does everyone in the Pulse It program read the same book?

Everyone gets the same two choices, and the book they pick is up to them. You can then discuss, comment and share your opinion with other Pulse It members while you are reading the book.

Reviewing the books
How long do I have to review the book?

You have 60 days from the date the book becomes available on the Pulse It website to read and review the book.

How many books can I read at once?

You can technically be reading two books at once, because you have access to books for 60 days from the date books become available on the Pulse It website. But, you can only choose one book a month.

Can I publish a review outside of Pulse It?

Yes, you have the opportunity to post to your Facebook profile or send to your Facebook friends a personal message along with a message from Pulse It, and providing a link back to the Pulse It web site.

Profile information:
Can members share an email address?

No. Members must each have their own email address.

How do I change my home address or email address?

You can change your email or mailing address at any time by editing your profile. Please keep these up–to–date, as that is how we send free books and other cool stuff to you if you win our monthly sweepstakes that is currently being operated on the Pulse It web site.

Is my personal information displayed?

Your photo, username, city/state, bio (including activity on the Pulse It web site) and interests (if you choose to provide) will be publicly posted on your profile for other Pulse It members to view (See our Privacy Policy for further information).
