PulseIt Overview:
So you're here — a member (or potential member) of the Pulse It Program. But you want to know how this thing works.
Awesome. First off, this is an online program and community where you'll get to read books for free online. You don't need to download anything or use any special software — just get to any computer with Internet access.
Eligibility:
You must be a legal resident of one (1) of the fifty (50) United States or D.C. and Canada (excluding Quebec) and between the ages of 14 and 18 to become a member of the Pulse It web site.
How It Works:
If you meet the eligibility requirements, then, here's how to start: To register, CLICK TO SIGN UP. Once you are registered, you'll want to set up your profile first and let us (and other members) know what you're into: favorite books, movies, etc. You can even upload a picture to your profile, but hey — let's keep it clean. Nothing inappropriate or revealing. And please make sure that no one else owns the rights to the image. Keep in mind that all other members of the web site will be permitted to access and view your profile (including picture) so don't put anything in there that you wouldn't want other people to see or know about you. Your photo, username, city/state, bio (including activity on the Pulse It web site) and interests (if you choose to provide) will be seen by other Pulse It members. Please also read the Privacy Policy. Please also review the Terms of Use including the Community Rules, which govern your use of the Pulse It web site.
Ways to Have Fun on the Pulse It Web Site:
BOOKS:
Then: more fun stuff: PICK A BOOK TO READ FOR FREE!
There are two books to choose from each month, and you can pick the one you'd most like to read.
You have 60 days to read a book online once it becomes available on the Pulse It website. You cannot print or download the book. Don't worry, though, we'll save the last page you were reading for the next time you log in. However, please note that after the 60 days are up, you will no longer have free online access to the book so make sure you finish it before the deadline expires.
The Pulse It website community is a shared reading experience and a way for you to connect and discuss books with other members. So after you've read the book, let us and other members know what you think: WRITE A REVIEW IN THE BOOK REVIEW SECTION, and then, if you want, let people know you wrote a review by posting a message on your Facebook profile. Writing a review of a book on Pulse It will allow you to earn points. Check out the complete list of activities that will allow you to earn points discussed in greater detail below.
MESSAGE BOARDS:
In addition to posting book reviews, message boards are a way to earn points, too. We hope that the message boards will be a place to discuss the books, your favorite authors, and anything else that's on your mind. Provided that you do not post:
Pulse It may monitor the Message boards, and we have the right to remove any offensive content. (We also will not award points for posts that are removed.) Please be respectful. It's your community and you can shape the discussion with your comments, reviews and posts. We know you'll agree with us that it shouldn't be a place for bashing others. We have the right to remove inappropriate postings — but you know what? You can help too.
If you see a post, review, or even a picture that is offensive, click "Flag as inappropriate" right beneath it. We will monitor these flags and we reserve the right to terminate your Pulse It web site account for inappropriate content in our sole and absolute discretion.
Monthly Sweepstakes:
Each month we are offering a monthly sweepstakes to members who are loyal Pulse It web site community participants. To be eligible for each monthly sweepstakes drawing, you must log-in to the Pulse It web site at least one (1) time during that month. Also, please see the full Official Rules for all of the terms and conditions that apply to your participation in our monthly sweepstakes. Our monthly sweepstakes provides our active members an opportunity to WIN FREE BOOKS AND HAVE OTHER COOL STUFF MAILED TO YOU!
Monthly Contests:
Each month we will also conduct three contests for active members. Members will have three ways to be a Pulse It VIP. The three contests will identify the best all around member, blog and review—aka, Totally Obsessed, Blogtastic and Unique Critique. Please see the full Official Rules for all of the eligibility, criteria, terms and conditions that apply to your participation in our monthly contests. Contests winners will receive FREE BOOKS.
Other Stuff:
AUTHORS
Don't miss a chance to hear from authors of the books you read! Check out the featured authors for each month to see if the author of your book is posting messages!
And Finally:
Do not reveal your name, phone number, e-mail address or other contact information to others on the web site. Keep in mind that Pulse It is an online community only — do not arrange physical meetings with member of the web site.
Thank you for being respectful of yourself and others! And, don't forget, everyone who participates in Pulse It must read, understand, agree and comply with the Terms of Use. If you don't understand one or more of the terms, please ask your parents to explain it to you. Please note that the Terms of Use and these Rules of the Road may change from time to time so please check back here every once in a while to make sure you are in the know!
That's right, folks⎯we listened to what you had to say and by popular demand, we're here to introduce a faster, smoother, de-bugged e-reader (that still saves the page you were on before, no worries.)
Here is everything you need to know about the new format:
BUTTONS
(From right to left)
TABLE OF CONTENTS button: If you click on the button and the Table of Contents shows up as a pop up. You can jump to a different chapter from there. Not gonna lie⎯it's kind of cool.
Left arrow icon: Goes forward a page.
Right arrow icon: Goes back a page.
Magnifying glass icon: Zooms in on the page.
Folded Piece of Paper icon: If you get sick of reading the book two pages a time, you can switch to the single page view.
SEARCH box: Searches for stuff. So for instance, say you wanted to find that page where The Boy Kissed The Girl. In that case, you would type in “kiss” and the search will list all the times the word “kiss” shows up in the book.
What's missing? We no longer have the page number box in place, but we figured that since the reader flips the pages so much faster⎯between that and the Table of Contents you should be covered :)
Also … FYI for your reading experience:
Now you can actually SEE when the page is loading (a little hourglass should pop up) instead of not knowing whether the reader's working or not.
If you can't be bothered to scroll back up to use the forward/back buttons, you can click on the left of the page to scroll forward. Need to go back? Click on the right side and it takes you right back to where you were ;)
If you're on Windows, Press F11 for a full screen!
