Ready-Made Lesson Plans

After reading Sluggers: Game 1:
The word "barnstorming" is defined as the practice of traveling around the country presenting plays, giving lectures, or performing exhibitions like dancing, tightrope walking, or baseball to raise money for a cause. In this series, the Payne children -- Griffith, Graham, and Ruby -- travel around the country with their mother and The Travelin' Nine, a barnstorming baseball team! As Griffith, Graham, and Ruby tour the grand ol' U. S. of A. with the Barnstormers, they discover a complicated mystery that they work as a team to piece together. Invite your students to create their own imaginary group of barnstormers. Have them choose a performance exhibition, like the ones listed above, select a cause for which the group would work to raise money, create posters advertising their appearances in your hometown, and even write a story about their adventures.
