I fell in love with Elmore Leonard a long, long time ago. First one I
read was STICK. It took me a while to realize that I was reading nothing

BUT dialogue. No exposition, no weather, no character descriptions,

nada. And, not only that, it seemed alive on the page because, not only

was it hysterical, but it was eerily real. And you understood everything

you needed to know about story, the characters, the plot, everything,

by listening to people talk to each other. I decided then that if I ever did write a novel, I would take Elmore as my dialogue coach.

Whoa, slow down history. Everytime I think I 've got the jump on you,
you pull a fast one. Take Putin. I thought it couldn't get any worse and said so in my new novel, PATRIOT. I turn around and wham, you've shot down one of your own passenger planes. I mean, seriously, Vlad?
