On Books and Writing

A. I have too many to list here, but some of my favorites are David Eddings, Ian Fleming, Robin McKinley, and Donald Westlake.
Q. What are your 5 favorite books of all time?
A. Watership Down by Richard Adams Any book in the James Bond series by Ian Fleming Beauty by Robin McKinley Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls Any book in the Dortmunder series by Donald Westlake
Q. Is there a book you love to reread?
A. I don't reread a lot of books. There are too many new ones out there to dig into!
Q. Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?
A. "Never give up, never surrender!" This is a quote from the movie Galaxy Quest that I think applies to writing, which is a tough business to be in. You really have to love writing and just keep doing it no matter what. If you do, sooner or later, good things are bound to happen for you.
Q. What comment do you hear most often from your readers?
A. I don't know that I get any one comment more than others, but people often tell me that they like my books and ask when the next one is coming out. That's what every writer loves to hear -- that people enjoyed your work and want to read more of it. It's very satisfying and humbling at the same time.
