I write like a reader. That is to say, I never think I am writing to express myself, to reveal some secreted, dark part of my nature. I believe I am writing to entertain myself. I am the audience. I have to be caught up in my character's dilemma, in the pace of the book, in wanting to know what will happen. So in a sense, I write for some other person, a fictionalized Drew Chapman. He is out there, waiting for my book, hanging on my every word. And when he is excited, or moved, or happy with the plot, then I am happy. And when he is bored, or disbelieving, then I am in trouble.

So I guess I have met my reader, and he is me.
