My Life in 8 Words

Author Revealed

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Don't stop believing.

Q. Which living person do you most admire?

A. My grandmother. She wanted to move to Paris to be a writer, but instead fell in love with my grandfather, a student at Yale Divinity School. Though she became a minister's wife, Grandma refused to lose her eccentricity, her open-minded curiosity, or her love of difference. She doesn't agree with the concept of the Eucharist, keeps a massive painting of a nude woman tussling with a snake in the living room, and embraced my mom completely when Mom began to date another woman.

Q. If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

A. Oh, wow, maybe greater athletic skill? I'm in this adult gymnastics class right now, and it is truly a tutorial in humility. There's a reason most gymnastics are twelve.

Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?

A. I have a small jewelry business, and before that I made stationary. I love to do things with my hands, usually while watching trashy television on my computer. Like "The Bachelor." Of which I am very ashamed.

Q. What are your most overused words or phrases?

A. Oh, god... probably something filler-ish like, "You know what I mean?"
