My Life in 8 Words

Author Revealed

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Slow and steady wins the race.

Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?

A. Dorset, Vermont

Q. What are your most overused words or phrases?

A. Somehow, my characters always seem to signal emotion by stomach "clenching". It must stop!

Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A.

I would like to meet Virginia Woolf (who would, I believe, not be a bit interested in meeting me at all!). But if I could meet her, I would say:

"Thank you. At a key point in my journey as a reader, your work showed me what writing could be. I have never forgotten the excitement of reading your work for the first time."

I would also tell her I am not afraid of her, but she wouldn't understand this since the play, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, was written long after she died!

Q. What is your biggest pet peeve?

A. People who say to me: Oh, I've been thinking of writing a children's book for years. Or: When are you going to write something important?
